I replaced the power steering pump a couple months ago. It was totally shot. But now the reservoir runs low after about 5 days and starts whining again. It looks like it could be coming from where the hose(?, tube?) attaches to the pump but I tightened that up nice and snug. It doesn't seem to be coming from the cylinder down at the steering linkage. Any advice? EDIT: UPDATE. I had a hard time finding the correct o ring and washer to replace the bad/missing ones so I broke down and took i... As the title suggests. Mileage is 154,000 miles. I've done a few Google searches with the symptoms and it suggests there's something wrong with the power steering. I'm going to add power steering fluid and then flush it. I'm hoping that it's not the power steering pump going bad. Is there anything obvious that I might be missing that I should consider? I recently got the oil changed at 153,000 miles (about a month ago) and the tires are new. Thanks again.
I'm looking for the shaft size or tool that's used to remove a power steering pump pully on a 3.8l v6. I bought a general kit but it doesn't seem to have the right tool in it, so if you have experience please help me out. Its for a 98 windstar by the way.

After much trial and tribulation I managed the get the three bolts holding my power steering pump off my 2007 F150. Now the pump itself seems to be seized on the block it's mounted to. I can't get the damn thing off. Anyone have any ideas? Also, I just want to confirm, I removed the two bolts up top that were longer, and then the third bolt underneath and when that one came out it was quite a bit shorter than the other two. Just confirming this is correct and there is nothing else holding it in... I do not know much about repairs or anything, but I had a flat tire, and after my tire went flat a “service power steering now” warning came up and my steering got wonky, I had AAA come to hopefully assess some of the damage and he said the pump was blown. I am not sure what to say to a mechanic about what I need repaired, have an idea about how much it costs, if I am able to drive on the spare, or what the timetable could be. Let me know if you have any advice on what steps I need to take and/o... Steering wheel on my truck recently got really tight. I checked out my power steering res and it was a little low so I topped it off. While doing so, I realized that the cap was not put on properly. I have had to top the res off before, so I assume I have a very slow leak somewhere. Anyway, normally topping it off solves the problem, but this time nothing changed really. Could something have gotten into the res and is causing a clog somewhere? The cap was on, just misthreaded. I don't think the... I have the kit but instead of removing the pulley from the power steering pump it removed the flange from the pulley instead. What do I do or am I doing something wrong? This may sound like a suicide mission, but is my situation currently. I need to drive straight west of Boston 6 hours today. Basically what the title says. My power steering pump has been whining on and off. It's also leaking, so I've been topping it off with normal power steering fluid. Now it's whining non stop even when the res is completely topped off. Did I break it by using power steering fluid instead of ATF, or was it likely just on its way out anyway? Secondly, when I replace it, should I use ATF?
